Replacing the Mirror Glass

Since the car is from the US, it came by default with the idiotic aspheric driver-side mirror with magnification. You can’t really see anything through a mirror like that, except maybe the face of the driver behind you. So I decided to replace it with a regular, non-magnifying mirror.

I bought an aftermarket mirror — the genuine one costs a fortune. Got it on a local classifieds site; realistically these mirrors are probably from AliExpress anyway, but I didn’t want to wait a month, and the markup was laughably small (20-30 UAH).

I first tried removing the old mirror glass with a piece of cord, and once it started to give, I began prying it out with a plastic trim removal tool. Took about 10 minutes to get off — it was seated well.

The new mirror glass installs easily — you just line everything up with the mounting clips and press it in until it snaps into place.

With the new mirror it’s much better — the field of view is several times wider now. The heating still works.
